Prescribing Information
Iron is essential for normal functioning of the human body and is involved in immunity. It is also a structural component of haemoglobin. Phosphate forms part of ferritin and plays an integral role in energy production.

  • Haematology: Due to its role as a component of haemoglobin, iron plays a vital role in the structure and function of healthy blood.
  • In the body, iron is found most commonly associated with phosphate, the main anion for energy storage and release.
  • Phosphate acts as a regulator of iron phosphate absorption, and forms part of ferritin, the iron storage complex. It is also incorporated into 2,3 diphosphoglycerate (2,3 DPG, a compound in red blood cells that regulates oxygen release by haemoglobin), and consequently plays an integral role in energy production.
  • Immunity: Iron is involved in immunity, and severe iron deficiency may lead to reduced resistance to infection.

Directions for Use

Adults: Take 1 tablet 3 times a day with meals, or as professionally prescribed.
Children under 12 years: As professionally prescribed.

Warnings

I.P. 82 may interact with certain other medications your patients may be taking. Iron may decrease the absorption and efficacy of some medications. I.P. 82 should be administered at least 2 hours apart from methyldopa, carbidopa, levodopa, thyroid hormone, penicillamine, tetracyclines, quinolones and bisphosphonates.
