Glycine is a conditionally essential amino acid which acts rapidly in the central nervous system (CNS) to inhibit excitation (within 30 mins). With no regulation over its uptake (unlike taurine), glycine is a great first line option. Glycine shows a high degree of promise when the brain is under excitatory excess (e.g. conditions such as depression, acute stress, drug use and extreme insomnia).
